What a suspension does
Instagram disables the account when it finds a breach of its rules. The owner can often appeal through the account status flow.
What it means for a claim
- The handle is held for as long as an appeal is possible.
- Instagram does not say what happens to the username afterwards.
- A report about the suspended profile does not move the handle to you.
What to do
Choose another name for now and check back by trying the name in the username change screen. Do not rely on a suspension to free a name.
