What it means
Instagram can refuse for reasons it does not always spell out: the evidence did not match the form, the account does not break a rule, or the handle is held by someone entitled to it.
Common reasons claims fail
- The route did not fit the facts
- Evidence was thin, such as no trademark registration
- The holder had not done anything that breaks a rule
- The handle was a common word or name with several legitimate holders
- The account was reinstated after an appeal
What you can try next
Check whether a different route fits. If a trademark is involved, make sure the registration, class and owner details line up. If the account was yours before, read the reuse guidance. If a decision was an error, use Instagram’s appeal path where one is offered.
Handles that are close
Sometimes the practical answer is a variation: a period, a short suffix, a handle that keeps your name in front. It is worth deciding before you start what you would accept.
How the refund works here
When a claim fails, you get a 100% refund for that claim. Failure is defined on the pricing and refunds page. Instagram’s decision is final for the purposes of the refund.
