Why it can get in the way
Instagram's help page on verified profiles says a username change is reviewed before it shows, can take up to 3 days, is allowed once every 14 days, and the new username should be similar to the one you had when you subscribed. If you plan to move to a different handle, sort out the handle first, then subscribe.
Routes that can work for a taken handle
- The holder poses as you or your brand: impersonation report.
- You hold a registered mark that matches: trademark handle request.
- The handle was yours and was taken in a hack: handle taken after a hack.
