First, get back in
- On the login screen, use Forgot password with the old email, phone number or username.
- Check old inboxes for Instagram emails, which show the address the account used.
- If the email or phone is gone, follow the steps Instagram offers for confirming your identity.
- Turn on two-factor authentication once you are in.
Then move the handle
- On the old account, change the username to something else and save.
- Straight away, set the handle on the account you want it on.
- Do both steps close together, because a released name can be taken by anyone.
If you cannot get back in
Without access, Instagram treats the old account like any other holder. A report route only fits if its facts apply, such as an account posing as you. Read the routes comparison before you choose one.
