The two differ on goal, proof and owner
| Question | Username claim | Account recovery |
|---|---|---|
| What it asks for | A handle held by another profile | Access to your own account |
| Typical proof | Impersonation facts, a registered mark or an old username of yours | Proof you own the account, as the recovery steps ask |
| Who decides | ||
| Does Atclaim handle it | Yes, through official routes | No |
Choose a claim when the handle belongs to someone else
You have nothing to recover. You want a name that another profile holds. The next step is the route check.
Choose recovery when the account is yours
If you cannot log in to an account that is yours, follow Instagram’s own recovery steps. The appeal page is listed in sources for refused decisions.
Some situations include both
If your account was hacked and the handle was changed, recovery comes first. A claim only makes sense if the handle is then held by someone else and a route fits.
Avoid anyone who mixes them up
A service that offers both ‘unbans’ and handle claims in one sentence is selling something Instagram does not offer. Read the scam signs.
