Seven items make a claim easy to read
- The exact handle, spelled the way it appears.
- The profile that will receive it, with its current username.
- Proof tied to the name, such as a registration, a business record or screenshots of past use.
- The route you think fits and why.
- What the current holder is doing with the handle, from public view only.
- A fallback handle you would accept.
- A contact method you check, so you see the reply.
Proof should match the route
An impersonation report needs a link to who is being copied. An intellectual property report needs the mark, its owner and the class of goods. A previous-username request needs the old profile in your Accounts Center history, not a document.
Use only what you can see from outside
Look at the holder’s public profile. Do not log in as anyone, do not message the holder to pressure them, and do not ask other accounts to report a profile. Mass reports are not part of any route.
A fallback saves a second round
Decide in advance whether a period, an underscore or a short suffix is acceptable. A claim can fail while a variation is free right now.
Then check the route
Send the handle to Atclaim on WhatsApp for a route check, or follow the official steps yourself with the sources listed below.
Official sources
- Instagram: report an impersonation account
- Instagram: report an intellectual property infringement
- Instagram Help Center: using a previous username
Platforms change their help pages and forms often. Follow the wording on your own screen and the current Help Center. Atclaim is an independent service and is not affiliated with Meta or any platform named on this site.
