Do this now
- Open Accounts Center and check which username your account shows now.
- If your account has a new name you did not choose, follow a hacker changed my Instagram handle.
- If you renamed it yourself, try the old name in Edit profile straight away.
- If it was never yours, screenshot the account holding it with the date visible.
- Pick the route: impersonation if it poses as you, trademark if you hold a registered mark.
What to write
Keep any report short and factual: "The account @name uses my registered trademark [mark, number, office] as its username and presents itself as my business. Links to the posts are below."
Deadlines to know
- After you change a username, Instagram lets you switch back to the old one for 14 days if no one else has taken it.
- Reports have no published response time. Watch the email you filed with.
What to avoid
- Paying anyone who says they can release the handle.
- Filing the same report again and again.
- Messaging the holder with threats.
