Instagram first: what holds up in South Korea
Korea is a first-to-file country, so a mark registered with KIPO is the clearest paper for Instagram’s intellectual property form. The Unfair Competition Prevention and Trade Secret Protection Act also covers use of another’s well-known name or indication, which can support a request. It is background for a platform that decides under its own form.
The four official routes are set out in the routes guide and compared on the routes comparison.
What to have ready in South Korea
For a request from South Korea the useful evidence is a mark registered with KIPO, proof that the name is well known as yours, or evidence that a profile is posing as you. The preparation checklist lists the rest: the exact handle, the profile it is for, and what ties the name to you.
Never send a password or a login code. Nobody who needs one is working through an official route. See claim scams.
TikTok and Snapchat from South Korea
A Korean brand name written in Hangul needs a Latin spelling for all three platforms. The Revised Romanization system is the official standard, but personal names often follow older habits, so Lee, Yi and Rhee can be the same surname. State which spelling the brand uses abroad. TikTok and Snapchat go through trademark and infringement forms.
Handle limits for both are on the TikTok rules and Snapchat rules pages.
